How many parents would love to give their kids more responsibility; I know I would, who wouldn’t. I would like to think that we as parents should be able to trust our kids with some things shouldn’t we? Here is a good example, telling him to find a company that can come pickup this vehicle that is sitting on my property and remove it. The worst part is it’s his car, it’s his car. Did he do his research? Of course not! Did he read reviews? Nope! Instead of looking up information about the company and doing his research, he starts making phone calls. You know teenagers these days always trying to get the easy way out of everything. It seems like it has been this way ever since he was little. Lazy with everything I tell you. Go do this? Then they give you that look; his face glaring. You know that look they give you when they don’t really want to do what they are told.

Then what do you do? You give them that look back, that you don’t know what is coming your way if you don’t do it look. But honestly, I love my kids even though sometimes they drive me up the wall, but in the long run you would do anything for them. He knows I love him. So, he gets on the phone with the car buyer or whatever you want to call them. He gives him a quote for $270 dollars and they offered a free tow with that. Well, one thing I have learned about making phone calls you never settle for the first one. I told him to call around and get some more quotes. So he kept calling around getting more quotes, they seemed to be all pretty even within price range of each other. He then called this one place, I can’t remember some “cash for cars” place; the guy asked him some questions, then offered this really nice quote, compared to the other people, this quote was a couple hundred dollars more, I didn’t exactly know what to think about it, but it sounded good to me. I asked my son if he looked these guys up making sure they had a good reputation, he said, “dad, I took care of it; don’t worry.” With the mindset of wanting my son to be responsible in life I let him have my trust; I let him do his thing.

Well, to make a long story short, my son got off the phone with them and was all excited, and me as a father I was happy for him, I let him know it. So the scrap car removal guy showed up and I kid you not, he spent 15 to 20 minutes eyeing the car over and pointing the littlest things wrong with the car. He had picked the car apart so bad, that when he was done the price was at $230 bucks. I wasn’t having that. I stepped in told the guy we weren’t interested. He was pretty upset and very rude about it. I talked to my son about it and he admitted that he didn’t do what I asked him to do. But, he said he understands for future tasks, how important it is to do your research before doing anything. We shall see. I know I went on and on about this. But I am hoping that my story will help some people out. So, if you are looking for a place in Memphis to junk your vehicle, do your research first, and if you are letting your kids do it, make sure they understand the importance of researching the company. In my eyes, reviews tell the story.
